At St Mary's the governors expect every child to have a healthy school lunch.
Our school lunch is provided by the catering company Harrison. Lunch is prepared from scratch every day by our wonderful chef, Mrs Coleman, and her team, using good quality, fresh ingredients.
Harrison operate a three week menu system where children can chose from a variety of dishes every day.
Meat, fish and vegetarian dishes are available along with a choice of fresh vegetables, a selection of salads, homemade bread and a range of deserts including fresh fruit salad. Water and milk are also provided.
Like all caterers that provide lunch for schools, Harrison are bound by the Governments' strict food standards. These state that food served in maintained schools in England must meet the School Food Standards so that children have healthy, balanced diets.
They must provide:
- high-quality meat, poultry or oily fish
- fruit and vegetables
- bread, other cereals and potatoes
There can't be:
- drinks with added sugar, crisps, chocolate or sweets in school meals or vending machines
- more than 2 portions of deep-fried, battered or breaded food a week
